My passionate hobby for making unusual baby gifts in the form of BabyCake is second to none.
I just love creating, making and baking these very special BabyCake gifts.
There’s quite a story to the way I discovered I had such a creative flair for these gifts when a friend of mine asked for my help choosing baby gifts for his best friend……………………………
The family had discovered that their daughter, a mother of two young children, had suffered from leukaemia and had received several courses of chemotherapy, was told she would not be able to have any more children, became pregnant!
The family, by this time, had fallen on hard times after all the hospital visits with her illness and were struggling to prepare for a very unexpected but treasured new arrival.
My friend wanted to help them out, but knew they were to proud to accept money or help, decided to buy the baby as much as possible as a birth gift.
Being a male, he had no idea on how to go about this or what he should buy!
Enter Andie!……. 'Look' he says, 'This is my predicament, this is what I want to do but I haven't got a clue! You’re a woman with plenty of experience, this is the budget can you sort it for me?'
Hmmmmmmm!
I set too, sourced a range of products, from birth to 12 months and from clothes to accessories, sought his approval, bought the goods and gave them to him. …
Aahh!………………………………………………….satisfying…………………………………….. job done! WRONG!
'I love what you've bought and I've bought some wrapping paper but it looks so boring and un- appealing, can you make it look……….er……….. ‘Interesting’?????'
So I played and I played and I played some more!
And eventually, having heard of these things called 'diaper cakes' from America, which are cake shapes made up of and filled with disposable nappies and a few small accessories, like feeding spoons, brush and comb, baby nail clippers and scissors and maybe a feeding bottle, I made my own 'Cake' using all the clothes and accessories I had bought, with not a nappy in sight!
And so, The BabyCake was 'Baked!'
My friend loved it, said he thought I had a real talent.
From then on, after the interest making that one generated, I began being asked by my family and I found myself baking more and more BabyCakes.
My family felt that my ‘talent’ should be shared and began telling friends and the word spread to friends of their friends who began asking for one my unusual gifts when they want a gift.
I have even been asked to put a little something in for mum, dad and twin siblings!
I also baked a second 'BabyCake' for a recipient for 18-24 month clothing in the shape of a boat and personalized it, by 'naming' the boat with the little boys name.
This is how uniqcutebabies was born!
